What did we get for Christmas? More pounds!

During our trip to Croatia, we decided to spend Christmas in Zagreb. People here are super nice, and very easygoing, especially when you have the opportunity to meet the owners of your airbnb apartment. We got to know them, these people were amazing with us and they made us enjoy the city more than ever, such as by telling us what kind of food to try and what kind of special events there were in the city.

In Zagreb we also discovered the fritule! Basically, it is a soft fried ball of dough topped with nutella sauce! Before I tried it in my mind, it sounded “disgusting”. But after I tried it, it was so delicous that I understood why everyone loves fritule!(You can get them for between 15 and 20 kuna.) Now, I think, you my dear reader your mouth must be watering with just imagining it! LOL.

I think I always blame something to have the excuse of eating more. Maybe I’ll blame the cold weather? That sounds like a good excuse!

The cold makes us want every day to eat sweet and delicious things, here in Zagreb there is a dessert place every 2 buildings and each one is better than the other, bad for your hips but delicious for the palate! My recommendation that you enjoy MEET MIA – with its carrot cake and pistachio cheesecake – and also AMELIE – the amelie cake is really fantastic (per my boyfriend, who has a massive sweet tooth and belly just kidding). Always enjoy your cake in the company of a tea or a coffee! And if you like hot drinks with milk, you should always make sure they put hot milk.

For sure, Zagreb has more things than just those delicious desserts and fritule. They have a lot of sausages and mulled wine, I especially recommend cherry brandy. It has very good taste but you can confuse it with a juice because the taste is very good. And then you can get drunk without realizing it.

Definitely, Zagreb has an endless variety of things to enjoy during Christmastime … the food and the music in each Christmas market, the lanterns, the illuminated tunnel and the ice rink.

Also on December 31st, Zagreb will host an after party with Armin van Buuren; it’s a shame that we cannot attend. However Christmas in Zagreb is certainly a place to have fun and gain some more pounds. Who can resist that?

Cristina out.
